Bamboo Import Europe, the First Company to Adopt a Bamboo in Colombia!

Bamboo Import Europe is the first company to support and contribute to our Adopt a Bamboo program in Colombia! Bamboo Import is the largest bamboo retailer in Europe, and has been conducting fair trade policies for over a decade.

The company sources its products directly from farmers and artisans in Asia and South America, and sell the imported products from their warehouses in the Netherlands to the end consumer. This means no middlemen are involved. As a result of this strategy they can offer competitive prices to their customers and at the same time pay above market prices to their suppliers, which mean a loyal, exclusive and a highly motivated supply chain.

Over the years Bamboo Import has greatly improved the livelihoods of bamboo farmers and artisans abroad, which they demonstrate again by being the first company to adopt one of our bamboo plants. Keep leading the way Bamboo Import!

Dendrocalamus sinicus

CEO and Founder of Bamboo Import, Pim van der Eng, has chosen to adopt a Dendrocalmus sinicus plant, which is the largest bamboo species in the world. The species was imported from China and grown from seed (seeds may only occur once every 120 years). Dendrocalamus sinicus or "Dragon Bamboo" has the largest culms of any known bamboo species with diameters up to 14.5 inches (37 cm) wide, culm walls up to 2.3 inches (6 cm) thick, and culm heights up to 151 feet (46 meters). Each culm can weigh up to 990 pounds (450 kg) a piece, and one plant eventually consists of about 100 culms.

Watch this bamboo grow!

All of the planted bamboos at Hacienda Guadua Bamboo have their own ID number and their individual page in our Adopt a Bamboo membership area. There we publish photos of each bamboo being planted, and update the page every 6 months with new photos so that you can literally see each bamboo grow!

If you want to support our program then please consider to Adopt a Bamboo at our farm. In return you’ll receive a digital certificate and your name linked to one of our planted bamboos.

Companies that wish to adopt one of our bamboos can choose our Business Package, which include a “few extras” such as your company name featured on our website and the option to chose which bamboo species your company wishes to adopt.
