Custom Bamboo Ceiling Designs Costa Rica

We offer a variety of custom bamboo ceiling designs in Costa Rica. These can be applied for remodeling an existing residential or commercial property or in new construction projects.

Below you will find some examples of our most popular ceiling applications.

1. Bamboo Slat Ceilings

Bamboo slat ceilings are a beautiful way to bring a tropical look and feel to your ceiling. Bamboo slats can be applied horizontally or, like the picture below vertically. This last technique is used when bamboo ceilings and floors are combined. By installing the slats vertically the strength of Guadua bamboo is tremendous en thus perfectly suited as a floor as well.

2. Bamboo Mat Ceilings

Bamboo mat ceilings are created with crushed bamboo (in Spanish called "esterilla"). To produce a bamboo mat, the freshly cut bamboo culm is cut over the entire length and spread open. After flattening the bamboo, the bamboo mat is cured by soaking it in a special mixture of water and Borax to immunize the bamboo mats against insect attacks. As you can see in the picture below bamboo ceiling mats can also be stained to give it a unique look.

3. Bamboo Palm Thatch Ceilings

In tropical countries such as Costa Rica, palm leafs are often used in roof designs. Important for the long life span of a bamboo palm thatch ceiling or roof is the time of cutting the leafs. The moon cycle plays a crucial role when harvesting palm leafs. All the leafs are knotted around bamboo slats to insure a strong and beautiful tropical ceiling.

Bamboo Cane Ceiling

Thin bamboo canes are also used to decorate ceilings or walls. Those bamboo stalks are stacked behind supporting roof beams and float without the use of nails or screws. In Costa Rica, where there is no abundant and native supply of bamboo stalks, "Caña brava" (Gynerium sagittatumis) is often used as an alternative, as shown in the picture.
