Finding and evaluating Costa Rica investment property for the purpose of growing commercial bamboo plantations is a task which can only be executed by experts in bamboo cultivation. Many believe bamboo can grow just about anywhere (according to what they read online). Although it is true that most bamboos have great adaptability, it is important to mention that every bamboo species will show enormous development differences when cultivated at locations that differ from their original habitat.
Ecology, topography, soil and climate conditions are all crucial factors to evaluate and analyze if you aim to create a successful bamboo plantation and business. The wrong decision on any of these aspects shall adversely affect the development of the plantation project and thus significantly affect the revenue stream of your investment. This beautiful Costa Rica farm land is for sale by owner and located near La Virgen, Sarapiqui. The 635ha property consists of 235ha pure tropical forest with 200-300 year old trees and 400ha of pasture land. The property (about 500 meters above sea level) has a view over the Caribbean lowlands on one side, and National Park Braulio Carillo on the other side. Two rivers and waterfalls form the natural borders of the "finca" which is owned by a Costa Rican family for generations. Since the owner is retired and his children have no interest in agriculture activities, the farm is now up for sale.
Currently the owner receives annual funding from the Costa Rican government to conserve the tropical forest located on the farm, this contract can be extended by the next owner. However, the current contract expires in 2012 which means trees could be harvested and sold. Since Guadua Bamboo is a strong advocate for reforestation, exploitation of these trees would not be our first recommendation. By any means, some of the hardwood could be used for the construction of houses or structures on the farm, or to generate additional income and create more space to plant bamboo.
A very important feature of this farm are its natural water resources. Studies have been made by engineers to develop a independent source of energy, which basically means water and electricity could be generated from the river to supply the farm or even to be sold to the municipality.
Also included on this Costa Rica farm are 2 typical homes, covered storage space, and farming equipment. The homes are currently used by workers and their families, while the storage space contains a tractor and equipment (plow, router, flatbed).
