It's rather difficult to find a good Costa Rica detailed map online, so we thought it might be useful to have one available when you are planning to travel to Costa Rica. Or if you want to visit our bamboo nursery of course. The original Costa Rica road map can be downloaded at the bottom of this page, but we have also put up smaller maps of Costa Rica to show our location and activities in the Sarapiqui region.
Our office and bamboo nursery is located in San Miguel de Sarapiqui. If you come from San Jose, it's best to follow the indicated road shown on the map (yellow arrow). This road goes from San Jose trough National Park Braulio Carillo (Ruta 32). Once past Braulio Carillo and out of the mountains, follow the direction Rio Frio which will lead to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui (not to be confused with Puerto Viejo, Limon). From there turn left towards La Virgin. We are located at the main road coming from La Virgin right across the Clinica de San Miguel de Sarapiqui. This entire trip from San Jose to our nursery takes about 1.45h - 2 hours. You can visit us from Mon - Sun on appointment only.
Guadua Bamboo Costa Rica Road Map
An alternative road (shorter) is either trough Varablanca (La Paz Waterfalls) or trough Bajos del Toro (where we have put the question mark). The Varablanca area was severely damaged by the recent earthquake in Jan. 2009 and is only recommendable in dry season. Bajos de Toro is a similar story.
Guadua Bamboo Costa Rica is also actively involved with reforestation in the Sarapiqui region. We educate and train local farmers and land owners to plant Guadua bamboo on their farms, which are often used as large pasture areas to raise cattle or to grow ornamental plants.
Right now we are planting Guadua bamboo in the areas around San Miguel and La Colonia Carbajal. For a close up view of this area, just download the Costa Rica detailed map on the bottom of this page.
Costa Rica Reforestation Map
A satellite view over this area shows clear deforestation patterns. By promoting Guadua reforestation and offering affordable seedlings and professional assistance, we aim to create a new and profitable industry for the region.
