Comparing Mechanical Properties of Bamboos
I was wondering if there is good information about the mechanical properties of the good timber bamboos listed together so they can be easily compared. Such tables are easily found and available from a number of sources for woods of different trees, but I have a hard time finding them for bamboo.
Properties of importance would include thickness of culm wall, hardness, MOE, MOR, density, compressive strength, tensile strength. Of lesser importance but still very useful would be ease of bending, color of wood, ease of splitting, concentration of fibers, and whether it is left rough or smooth, or fuzzy, or etc after being machined or sanded.
It would be much easier to choose a bamboo species to work with if the different species could be easily compared.
