The name Apoclada stands for the Greek words apo (separate), and clados (branch) and refers to the separate primary branch buds of the culm nodes. Bamboos of the genus Apoclada can be found in the Southern half of Brazil, either on grass-dominated arid regions, or humid mountainous regions.
